Top tips to reduce single use plastics in your kitchen

Reducing the use of plastics in your home, particularly your kitchen doesn't have to be hard.  It can be as easy as simply changing up a couple of things in your everyday schedule.  It might seem tricky at first but then it becomes part of your everyday routine like remembering your keys or brushing your teeth.
Switch up from cling wrap to reusable wraps
This one isn't too tricky.  There are so many different types of wraps around from wax wraps, to silicone to using fabric bags.  And it doesn't mean having to run out and buy things.  Why not think about making you're own?

Only buy what you need
Shopping hungry?  Don't do it!  Try planning out what you're going to buy for the week and then making sure you utilise every last part.  And if you can manage why not try and buy less more often so you're getting fresh produce and using it on the same day?
Use a reusable baking mat instead of baking paper or foil
Baking or roasting can be just as easy with a reusable oven mat.  And the clean up is super easy.  Use a reusable version to make sure you aint adding to that pile of waste that can't be recycled once its been touched by food.
Pack your lunch
Seems logical right?  But packing your lunch instead of buying it can make a world of difference.  Think about all the plastic packaging you can save from going into landfill buy simply packing some leftovers from the night before.  Plus you're minimising food waste.  Thats a win win in our books.
Drink from a tap or filter your own water
When you have clean drinking water coming from the tap you really don't have an excuse to drink bottled water.  If you don't like the taste filter it or add a flavour like lemon or mint.  And always make sure to carry a water bottle so you can refill on the run.
Use reusable produce bags instead of plastic
There are plenty of different cloth bags available specifically for storing produce in.  But it doesn't mean you have to run out and buy new things.  Think about reusing some old bags you might already have or if you're a whiz with a sewing machine, think about sewing up some old fabrics into produce bags.
Use a reusable tote instead of a plastic shopping bag
If you're like me you probably have shopping totes coming out of your ears!  So why not use them?  Store a couple in your car so you always have them on hand when you need them.
Seal your food in reusable containers and ziplocks
Don't rely on plastic bags from the supermarket to keep your fruit and veg fresh.  Maximise their lifespan by storing them properly in or out of the refrigerator.  The less you waste, the less you buy, the more you save!
Avoid takeaway
Why not take the time to go out for a meal?  Instead of grabbing something in a hurry take the time to sit and enjoy your food.  A meal with friends is a lot more fun then a quick bite at your desk.  Trust us.
If you're going to get takeaway use your own containers
We know what it's like to not have the time to sit down and eat so if you don't have time, come prepared.  It's pretty easy to pop a reusable container into your bag to fill up on the go.  Why not try it the next time you forget to pack your lunch?
Use a reusable coffee cup instead of a disposable
Did you know most disposable coffee cups aren't biodegradable?  Just your coffee consumption a year is a hell of a lot of coffee cups that are headed to landfill.  Why not just pack a reusable one instead?
Cutting out plastic from your life might seem like a little bit of extra work to start with but once you get in the swing of things it's just a matter of making some little changes to your lifestyle.  What seem like baby steps to you can make a world of difference.
