OUR ETHOS

Our Ethos – Big Bite Studios
Slow design. Ethical making. Colourful objects that spark joy.
Big Bite Studios was born from a simple idea: to reduce everyday waste through playful, well-designed products that people want to use again and again. We believe sustainability works best when it’s joyful—when it feels nostalgic, colourful, and connected to community.
From homewares to lifestyle goods, everything we create is grounded in slow fashion principles, small-batch production, and a commitment to thoughtful, responsible making.
Designed to Last, Made to Love
We create products that are practical, reusable, and made with intention—offering an alternative to disposable, single-use habits. Our approach is simple:
• Use better materials
• Produce in small runs
• Support ethical makers
• Design objects that brighten the everyday
Our studio in the Abbotsford Convent is where our designing and product development now take place. Here we hand-throw ceramics, print textiles, develop prototypes, and teach workshops. Working from an open studio allows us to build community connection; visitors can walk into our space, meet the team, and see firsthand how their products are shaped, stitched, glazed, and finished.
Ethically Made, Locally and Globally
Big Bite Studios works with a network of small, family-run producers across Australia and throughout Asia—including Indonesia, Thailand, Japan, Hong Kong, China, and Taiwan. Each partner is hand-selected for their commitment to sustainable practices, safe working conditions, and transparent production.
We’ve been collaborating with many of these makers since 2018—long before sustainability became a buzzword. Our relationships are long-standing, personal, and built on shared values. Many of these partners support entire communities in regional areas, and our work together helps preserve traditional craft knowledge while introducing innovative, low-waste materials.
Community Through Design
Big Bite Studios is more than a product brand—it’s a creative ecosystem. We host workshops, collaborate with artists, and create opportunities for people to reconnect with tactile making. We believe that creativity builds community, and that community drives meaningful sustainability.
From nostalgic artwork to playful dopamine décor, we aim to design with heart and humour. Our objects are meant to spark conversation, encourage reuse, and feel like little pieces of joy in your home.
A Slow, Sustainable Future
We are proud to continue growing our studio practice, deepening relationships with ethical suppliers, and championing a slower, more thoughtful approach to design. Whether handmade in our Abbotsford studio or produced in collaboration with small-batch makers in Australia and overseas, every Big Bite Studios piece is created with purpose, care, and colour.
Sustainable. Ethical. Playful. Nostalgic.
That’s the Big Bite way.
