Hi, I’m Seo, the artist and designer behind Big Bite Studios, a multidisciplinary art and design studio in Melbourne. My practice brings together painting, illustration, ceramics and design to turn the familiar things we grew up with into colourful, tactile objects you’ll want to use every day. It’s playful, nostalgic and made to spark a memory, start a conversation and remind you how good it feels to just have fun.

Shop. Make. Play.

My studio is part shop, part workspace, part playground.

Shop: Browse original artwork and illustrated goods, all designed in our studio.

Make: Come and watch us work. You’ll see paintings in progress, new designs on the sketchpad and ideas being tested on the bench.

Play: Join a creative workshop in ceramics, hand building or illustration, and take home something you made yourself.

From ’90s kid to now

So much of what I make comes from growing up in Australia in the ’90s. Before Big Bite, I spent years working across fashion, textiles, illustration and creative marketing. I lectured in fashion and design, worked as a buyer and textile designer, and led creative for hospitality and lifestyle brands. Along the way, I learned that the studio is my happy place. It’s where I get to create, experiment and connect with the people who walk through the door.

Big Bite has been through a few iterations, and it’s grown as I have. Now located within Melbourne’s historic Abbotsford Convent arts precinct, we’re a small team of creatives working in a studio where art, design and play finally sit together. Every design starts as an original painting. I test it first on small pieces like magnets, then it makes its way onto tees, textiles and homewares. The result is a bit of everyday joy you’ll smile at every time you see it.
