About Us – Big Bite Studios
Playful Design for Everyday Life
At Big Bite Studios, we believe you’re never too old to play.
Our wares are designed to spark joy, celebrate colour, and bring a little nostalgia to the everyday. Think dopamine décor for grown-ups — fun, quirky, and made to make you smile.
How It Started
Big Bite Studios began with a simple idea: make the everyday feel brighter.
Before launching the studio, our founder Seonaidh Murphy spent years working across fashion, textiles, design, illustration, and creative marketing. From lecturing in fashion and design, to working as a buyer, textile designer, and creative lead for hospitality and lifestyle brands, her career has always centred around storytelling through colour, pattern, and play.
Her travels through Asia introduced her to small, family-run makers experimenting with recycled materials, slow processes, and ethical production long before it was a trend. Inspired by their innovation and care, she began collaborating with them — bringing playful, consciously designed products to life.
What started as a handful of nostalgic illustrations and colourful objects has grown into a buzzing Melbourne studio and retail space at the Abbotsford Convent. Today, you’ll find Seonaidh and the team designing, hand-throwing ceramics, developing prints, shaping textiles, and building a world where everyday items feel anything but ordinary.
It’s a space full of sketches, clay, textiles, laughter — and the belief that creativity should always feel fun.
Designed in Melbourne
Every Big Bite Studios piece starts here in Melbourne, where creativity meets conscious design.
Many of our ceramics and textiles are handmade in-house, while our printed homewares and lifestyle goods come to life in collaboration with a close network of small, family-run makers across Australia and Asia.
Each partner is chosen for their commitment to small-batch production, respect for materials, and care for the people who make our products. Together, we create pieces that are thoughtful, durable, and joyful to use.
Our Studio & Workshops
Our Abbotsford Convent studio is more than a workspace — it's a place to play, explore, and connect.
Step inside and you’ll see prototypes in progress, ceramics drying on shelves, new prints being sketched, and visitors wandering in to watch the making unfold. We love sharing the process, inviting people behind the scenes, and creating opportunities to experience slow design with their own hands.
Our workshops offer a chance to learn wheel throwing, hand building, or illustration, and to take home a handmade piece that feels uniquely yours.
A Creative Community
Big Bite Studios exists because we believe creativity builds connection.
Through our products, workshops, and studio space, we aim to spark joy, nostalgia, and a sense of community — reminding people that everyday objects can be playful, meaningful, and made with care.
Colourful. Nostalgic. Sustainable. Joyful.
That’s the world we’re building at Big Bite Studios.
